Project Management Features

Project Objects has built in reporting and dashboard functionality that frees you from spending valuable time creating detailed reports, instead allowing the reports to be generated with the push of a button. Furthermore, reporting can be configured in numerous different ways allowing you to provide stakeholders with reports focused on their own specific needs and presented in a way that is easy for each of them to interpret.

Of course the suite also includes the ability to plan and schedule work and resource assignments, providing you with powerful and easy to use functionality to incorporate change requests, deal with changing priorities, etc. It also includes powerful phase and gate functionality to allow you to demonstrate achievement of major milestones in your projects and show stakeholders that initiatives are proceeding in alignment with the project constraints.

With Project Objects by your side in the project management process you are freed up to spend more time managing your team and helping to ensure that they are able to successfully complete their tasks – and that’s where the real value comes in.

Project Management Software is the core of any PPM system. If your system doesn’t handle projects well then the tool can never live up to your expectations, consolidation, reporting and analysis of partial, inconsistent and out of date information doesn’t help you run your business.

Project Objects is built on an extremely robust and feature rich project management platform that not only handles the basics but allows you to view data the way that you want to see it. Furthermore, you can change the way that you view the data with just a few simple clicks. When you build an application with easy to use configuration that is still powerful enough to meet your every need, then you combine it with an intuitive, visually appealing user interface that allows you to view any data, any way with just a few clicks, then you have the foundation of a powerful enterprise project intelligence tool. Then you have Project Objects.

Project Breakdown Structures

Any online project management software tracking tool can give you a work breakdown structure. Most of them can give you a resource breakdown structure, although often it’s neither easy to find or easy to use. But you don’t always manage your projects and your business simply using a breakdown of project work or resources. Project Objects doesn’t tell you how you should analyse your data; it allows you to break it out using any characteristic that you define.
Want to look at data by department, by vendor, by skill set, by office location, by capital vs. operation expenditure, by regulatory vs. revenue vs. operational? Go right ahead, and then start coming up with some comparisons that might be more of a challenge for Project Objects.
No software vendor has the right to tell you how to manage your projects, and if you aren’t using a tool that is built around that belief then you are unnecessarily compromising your ability to execute projects, and that’s going to cost you time and money.

Managing Project Lifecycle

With ProjectObjects, the project execution processes can be managed using a Phase & Gate approach that helps you to build a conceptual and operational roadmap for moving a new project from idea to launch.
The project development process can be organized into distinct, time-sequenced Phases separated by management decision gates.
Each Phase can be associated to a prescribed set of activities, deliverables and milestones that must be successfully completed before getting management approval to proceed to the next Phase of project development.

Scheduling & Resource Planning

The project schedule is a vital tool in successful project management software. Not only is it the cornerstone for the project manager to communicate with team members on the sequencing and timing of work, it also provides tremendous assistance with helping to understand the critical path, the impact on that path of any issues or delays, it identifies the tasks that have float and tracks progress against key schedule related metrics in earned value analysis.
Yet so many PPM tools make the relationship between the project and manager and the schedule a battle – the PM constantly seems to be struggling with scheduling functionality that makes illogical default assumptions, makes it hard to apply changes, treats all tasks as equal and ends up bearing no resemblance to the reality of the project because updates are so hard to apply and review.
Project Objects provides comprehensive functionality that allows PMs to plan work any way that they want, but with a much easier to use interface, more logical configuration options and immediate feedback that works with the PM to build an accurate schedule. Of course it also allows for calculation of schedule related earned value calculations, but beyond that it allows the PM to work with the schedule to recover from delays and take advantage of periods of over performance.
The schedule functionality integrates with other Project Objects modules to clearly communicate assignments to resources, capture updates and allow for review and approval of those updates if required. Project Objects scheduling is the kind of ally that every project manager wants, and has never had before.
The project’s schedule can be created using the ProjectObjects web interface. Resources can be easily planned across project activities through a set of powerful functions that enable users to:

  • Assign resources by skill or by name
  • Substitute resources according to their skills
  • Quickly locate alternative resources in case of overload assignments

Budgeting & Cost Control

The problem with managing costs on many projects is that the initial budget exercise is flawed. Either an arbitrary budget is set based on a high level business case with a high degree of variance in the estimates or the budget is based on estimates of the work that are frequently based on flawed logic.
Project Objects gives you complete visibility into how a project budget is built – every item has a cost assigned and the overall budget can be viewed based on any cost category that you want to see it – operational vs. capital, GL code, department, etc. That way you can easily identify and investigate cost items that seem inconsistent and correct problems before it’s too late. Project Objects allows you to start a project with the right budget, and that makes cost control far easier.
You would expect a PPM tool to be able to track the cost related earned value measures, and of course Project Objects can do that. But with the cost performance index and the estimate to completion Project Objects is just getting started. Finance departments want to go much deeper than that to understand what’s happening and the tool is there ready to assist.
See expenditure by GL code, costs over time, net cash flow, ROI, etc. Once more Project Objects is built on the fundamental belief that you should not compromise how you want to manage your business because of a limitation of the tool, so we removed those limitations. See the cost data the way that you want with just a few clicks and focus your attention where it should be – understanding and addressing the areas of the project that are causing cost variances. The less time that you have to spend finding the problem the quicker you can solve it – and that’s exactly where Project Objects excels.
ProjectObjects is capable of supporting cost management processes from budgeting to control & forecasting. Costs can be organized according to company Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) and Accounting Codes in order to guarantee cross-project consolidation at company level.
